The truck has left the Brewery.

Yup, the guys are heading up to Asheville, NC tonight in preparation for tomorrow's Beer City Festival. I hope everyone has tickets already! Last word was that a few tickets might be available at the gate, but I wouldn't count on it. A few people with extra tickets were offering them on the festival's Facebook site http://www.facebook.com/pages/Asheville-NC/Beer-City-Festival/10150107313185650
If you're wondering about the rules (No pets, kids allowed, but need tix, etc.) check out the official page beercityfestival.com (you'll have to click "buy tickets" to get to the main information page)

This year we're bring Table Rock, Piedmont Pilsner, Hefe-Weizen and our newest beer Black Raven IPA. And maybe something special, but you'll have to be there early if you want to see that.

We're not bringing your favorite beer to the festival? You may want to stop by Bruisin' Ales. They're open until 9pm on Saturdays, and we're delivering a shipment of OHB beer to them tonight!

Hope to see everyone in Asheville tomorrow!

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

We just wanted to let everyone know that tonight, Wednesday April 14th is your last chance to buy Hickory Hops beer festival tickets online at www.hickoryhops.com. We've actually extended the deadline by a few hours, but at midnight Eastern time it'll be over.

If you want to buy your tickets in person, you can still do that at either the Olde Hickory Tap Room (222 Union Square, Hickory, NC 828.322.1965) or Amos Howards (2828 US Hwy 70 SW, Hickory, NC 828.323.8753) through Thurs. April 15th. But that is the end of advance sales.

Right now it looks like we'll have a few tickets available for purchase on the day of the event (that could change), but why wait and pay $5 more?!? The weather forecast is close to perfect, 45 brewers have confirmed participation, there will be over 200 beers available, many restaurants on the Square will be offering specials and we have Mountain Still and Baby Black orchestra playing live!

By the way, did we mention which Olde Hickory beers we'll be serving?

We'll have a few classics - Table Rock Pale Ale, Hickory Stick Stout and Hefe-Weizen. We're also serving our current seasonal Poor Richard's Ale. For something a little extra special, you'll find Bardstown Brand barley wine. Then we decided to go all out with the cask conditioned beers! We have our ESB, which should be very interesting out of the cask. And we also casked some Table Rock, so you'll be able to compare cask vs. modern keg. And then, our cask pièce de résistance-Irish Walker! Irish Walker just won a silver medal at the World Beer Cup 2010 in Chicago. This is an extra special treat for our fans.

Hope to see everyone on Saturday!

Cheers!

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Hickory Hops! beer festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 17th 2010

Official Website - www.hickoryhops.com

Staged on Union Square in downtown Hickory, the 8th annual outdoor beer festival is organized by Hickory Downtown Development Association and hosted by Olde Hickory Brewery. It offers plenty for everyone, from inexperienced beer novices to hardened beer fest veterans anxious for something unusual. Pouring for six hours, beginning at 1:00, live music will be presented by Mountain Still (www.myspace.com/synergystudios212) & Baby Black Orchestra (www.myspace.com/babyblackband), rain or shine. Food is available from downtown restaurants during the festival. Brewers sell t-shirts, pint glasses, mugs and a sundry of other breweriana.

Tickets are available on-line at www.hickoryhops.com and at downtown's Olde Hickory Tap Room on Union Square and Amos Howards Brew Works on Highway 70 West. Cost is $30 in advance and $35 at the gate. Designated driver tickets are $10.

Everyone must be 21 years of age with valid ID to enter the gates, including designated drivers. No pets allowed.

While the economy in general is still pretty lackluster, the Southern craft brewed beer business is bustling with excitement. Over 40 breweries will be at Hickory Hops!, including several first time participants, with vast majority coming from the Tarheel State. Though they vary in size and scope, by their very name, microbreweries—more often called craft breweries these days—a re small businesses. The brewers are here to give their beer away in hopes that fest goers will patronize them in the future.
Complementing the Hickory Hops festivities, the Carolinas Championship of Beer makes its 5th appearance this year. Several weeks before the fest, brewers send their festival beers to Hickory for a blind-judged competition. In early-April, over 200 beers spanning 85 different styles will be analyzed by a panel of certified judges, brewers and experienced judges. Gold, silver and bronze medals in each category will be presented to winning brewers at a private brewers' dinner held the evening before the April 17th festival. During Hickory Hops, engraved plaques will be awarded to three Best of Show winners.

Through its history, Hickory Hops has become one of the industry's most favored fests. This brewer-friendly event, always one of the first of the spring/summer fest season, brings out the best from regional craft brewers. Cask-conditioned ales will be featured by many, as will other special or seasonal ales and lagers. Hickory Hops is a celebration of all things beer. The Hickory audience has always shown its appreciation and respect for this brewed art. Brewers are available to answer question, share tasting notes and enjoy the day. Many past fest-goers have described the beer festival as "the most fun [they've] ever had in downtown Hickory."

Hickory residents are fortunate to avoid travel to the fest. For all the out-of-towners coming, you may want to consider renting a hotel room in order to fully enjoy the festival. Both the Hickory Crowne Plaza and the Park Inn of Hickory are only a couple of miles from the festival site, and both will be running shuttles. Visit www.hickorymetro.com for hotel info and more. The Hickory Downtown Development Association website www.downtownhickory.com is also a great resource for information about the city. If you plan to make a weekend of it, you may also want to check out the Furniture Mart (http://www.hickorymetro.com/accomodations.htm#Hotels), the Catawba Science Center (www.catawbascience.org), the Hickory Museum of Art (www.hickoryart.org) or some of our other local attractions (see the Hickory Metro site for more info).

Great news! Our Imperial Stout and Dopplebock are now bottled. Like our other beers, they are in 22oz amber bottles and are currently available at Amos Howards Brew Pub and the Olde Hickory Tap Room, both in Hickory, NC. The Imperial Stout is 10.6% ABV and the Dopplebock is 9%, so be careful boys & girls.

*Please note that this is NOT the barrel aged stout that was available earlier. Still, Very Good!
